Structural analyses of wooden chairs by finite element method (FEM) and assessment of the cyclic loading performance in comparison with allowable design loads

Tests were carried out to investigate the cyclic loading performance of chairs constructed Scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris) and Oriental beech (Fagus orientalis). Totally, 30 real size assembled with polyvinyl acetate adhesive. Chairs tested under 3 directions; namely, front back, back front, backrest according American Library Association (ALA) specifications, obtained performances crosschecked allowable design load levels. Additionally, specimens analyzed as structures by using finite element method in order obtain axial, shear, bending stresses acting on each member loadings compare these values stresses. As a result, it was concluded that analyses achieve reasonable estimates for strength failure behaviors chairs. Depending loads Association; could meet medium service loading, while heavy loading.
